Republican U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski and Democratic opponent Mel Hall will meet in the first of at least two televised debates at 7 p.m. Oct. 8.
The debate is not open to the public but will be televised by WSBT in South Bend and hosted by Bob Montgomery.
The debate for Indiana’s 2nd District congressional seat will be held at the same time as the debate between Democratic U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly and the Republican nominee for the Senate, Mike Braun, at Purdue University Northwest in Westville.
Hall’s campaign manager, Max Harris, said the overlap of the two debates is not ideal, but he said it was what was possible for all to agree on. He said WSBT proposed the date.
Walorski’s campaign manager, Stephen Simonetti, did not address the overlap in the debates but sent a statement, saying that Walorski welcomes “this opportunity to discuss the issues that matter most to Hoosier families.”
The Elkhart Truth was not able to get a comment from WSBT before going to print.
The general election is Nov. 6.
