Mel Hall Calls on Rep. Walorski to Accept Offer to Debate

Hall Pens Letter Centered on Accountability to Voters
SOUTH BEND, Ind. – In a letter sent to Rep. Jackie Walorski yesterday, 2nd District Democratic Congressional Nominee Mel Hall publicly and formally called on Rep. Walorski to accept a series of three televised debates. In the letter, Hall also reminded Rep. Walorski of her call for six debates when she challenged then-Congressman Joe Donnelly in 2010.

“Accountable leadership is central to effective representation in Washington. It is with this understanding that I am firmly committed to providing the voters in the 2nd District with the chance to hear directly from us,” Hall writes in the letter. “It is my hope that you will agree to three (3) public debates, all televised, throughout the 2nd District, where we can present our views concerning issues of importance to the voters of the 2nd District.”

“These debates will provide an opportunity for Hoosiers across the 2nd District to hear from their Congressional candidates this fall,” said Max Harris, Hall’s campaign manager. “We look forward to Rep. Walorski’s response.”

The full letter is below.

Dear Rep. Walorski,

As I travel across the ten counties of the 2nd District, I talk every day with Hoosiers who want to hear our views on the challenges facing northern Indiana and our nation. These Hoosiers want to participate in our democracy, and we must provide them with the opportunity to do so.

Accountable leadership is central to effective representation in Washington. It is with this understanding that I am firmly committed to providing the voters in the 2nd District with the chance to hear directly from us.

It is my hope that you will agree to three (3) public debates, all televised, throughout the 2nd District, where we can present our views concerning issues of importance to the voters of the 2nd District. I feel it is important to note that when you first ran for Congress in 2010, you challenged then-Congressman Joe Donnelly to a series of six (6) public debates.

Holding public town halls, engaging with voters and debating one’s opponent are all important parts of effective representation in Congress. I am confident our respective teams can come to an agreement on the dates, format, timing, and venue for these debates.

I look forward to your prompt reply.

Sincerely,
Mel Hall Candidate for Congress, IN-02
